Hydraulic Log Splitters

Welcome to The Chainsaw Shop! Chainsaw maintenance tips and videos can be found here.

Owning a hydraulic log splitter is essential if you burn a lot of wood in the winter or cut fire wood to earn extra money.  Log splitters make your life easier by mechanically cutting logs into pieces. They are fast, reliable and get the work done in half the time it usually takes to cut logs with an axe.  A hydraulic log splitter can be used if you are working alone or with a partner or friend.  Having a reliable and durable hydraulic log splitter can save you a lot of headaches and lost work time.

What type of hydraulic log splitter are you looking for?

Having a hydraulic log splitter that fits your needs is essential.  You’ll need to factor in what size logs you plan on splitting.  You need the right sized split wood for your wood stove or fireplace.

Electric Log Splitter or Hydraulic Log Splitter?

Both electric and hydraulic log splitters are available and there are several manufactures.  Where you plan on splitting wood will help determine what type of log splitter you are in the market for.  Look for an engine that generates six to eight horsepower, for a commercial log splitter.  For personal usage, look for a splitter with less horsepower. Choose brand name equipment with an extended warranty.

Do You Want a Horizontal or Vertical Loading Hydraulic Log Splitter?

This is a personal preference but you should take into consideration where you will be doing the log splitting and which type of splitter would work best in that setting.

Safety First!

All log splitters can be dangerous but they don’t have to be if proper safety practices are taken.  Gloves, goggles, and steel toed boots are essential.  Remember it’s always best to work with another person because sometimes despite all safety precautions being taken accidents can still happen.

A hydraulic log splitter will save you time and help make the job of splitting wood seem less like a chore.
